Your Depression Treatment Starts Here

At Grouport, our online therapy for depression utilizes a wide range of evidence-based psychotherapy treatments to help you achieve relief from negative thoughts and maladaptive cycles. Our licensed therapists create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can gain deeper self-awareness and start making meaningful steps toward a better quality of life. We draw from several therapeutic approaches to address the core challenges of Depression:

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) plus icon

Emotional regulation can be a major issue for many with depression, and DBT combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with effective coping strategies to help you manage those emotions.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) plus icon

One of the most effective depression treatments, CBT focuses on identifying and challenging the negative thought patterns and beliefs associated with the disorder, while encouraging healthier behaviors and coping mechanisms.

Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) plus icon

IPT is an effective way for those with depression to improve communication skills — as healthy relationships help reduce depression symptoms. It's a short-term therapy that focuses on how things like unresolved grief, role transitions, and interpersonal conflicts contribute to depression.

Behavioral Activation (BA) plus icon

BA is a behavioral-focused therapy that encourages you to re-engage with meaningful activities and daily routines that reduce your depression symptoms. Tracking behavior can also help you break repetitive behavior cycles that often deepens depressive symptoms.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) plus icon

ACT helps reduce depression symptoms by teaching you to accept difficult thoughts and emotions, rather than avoiding them. Mindfulness and values-based actions act as the foundation for building a more fulfilling life.

Schema Therapy plus icon

Schema Therapy focuses on identifying and changing deeply ingrained, maladaptive patterns of thinking and behavior known as schemas. Schema Therapy can help individuals with depression restructure their distorted thinking patterns, leading to more adaptive thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

Psychodynamic Therapy plus icon

Psychodynamic Therapy treats depressive symptoms by uncovering unconscious thoughts and experiences that influence your current emotions and behaviors. By understanding the root cause, you can start to heal unresolved internal conflicts associated with depression.

Whether you choose online group therapy, online individual sessions, or a mix, our depression treatment programs are designed to meet you where you are-empowering you to manage symptoms, build stronger relationships, and feel more in control of your life.

We'll help you access the right level of care, from weekly therapy to more intensive support, based on your unique needs.

How frequent are online therapy sessions for depression?

Online depression therapy sessions are conducted once a week, at the same time each week (similar to in-person sessions). You’ll meet with others who struggle with depression-related symptoms.

HWhat is the initial consultation?

For some of our depression-related therapy services, an initial consultation is required before you join your first session. You'll know if this is applicable, if it prompts you to schedule a consultation after signing up. If this is the case, then the initial consultation is the first step after you sign up. It is a 20-minute, one-on-one assessment led by a trained mental health professional.

Whether depression has impacted your work, relationships, or family life, a consultation can help us understand your unique situation and match you with the best online therapy options. Regardless of whether it prompts you to schedule a consultation or not, a care coordinator can always go over your needs and make sure you feel confident about your therapist and session setup.

Can I switch therapists?

If you want to switch therapists, you can do so at any time. We have plenty of depression experts to choose from. Just let our support and care coordination team know by reaching out to support@grouporttherapy.com, and our team will suggest alternative therapists & times to switch to. How long are online therapy sessions for depression?

  • Online Group Therapy & Online Family Therapy – 60 minutes per session
  • Online Individual Therapy & Online Couples Therapy – 45 minutes per session

How many people partake in online Group Therapy for depression?

Depression therapy groups contain a maximum of 12 members, but typically operate with 6-8 members at any given time. Each group is led by a licensed therapist who specializes in the group’s focus.

How do I access my therapy sessions?

If you’re not prompted to create a member portal account when signing up, your sessions will take place via weekly video links sent by email. You’ll receive a confirmation email with details about your therapy match, and then a reminder email 24 hours before each session containing that week’s unique link. (Note: the link changes each week.)

If you do create a member portal account during signup, your sessions will take place within the portal, except for your initial consultation. You’ll receive a confirmation email with a unique link for that first consultation. After that, you’ll be able to log into the portal and join your weekly sessions directly from the homepage.

Do I have to talk during the group?

You do not need to talk during the group if you do not feel comfortable. We understand that it can be hard to have the motivation to speak, and if you prefer to just listen and observe, there is definitely benefit in doing so.

In fact, you could remain anonymous by adopting a nickname. Most members are surprised by how quickly they feel comfortable in the group setting, and report that sharing and being vulnerable with others is precisely the leading element to their recovery process.

What are the benefits of online group therapy for depression?

According to prominent psychiatrist and researcher Dr. Irvin Yalom, online group therapy services demonstrate numerous major benefits that make it as effective as individual family therapy.

Grouport’s online group therapy isn’t just as effective as individual therapy—it adds a whole new dimension of value that individual therapy alone cannot provide. Our structured, evidence-based groups create a powerful therapeutic environment that fosters growth, connection, and long-term success.

Who is online teen therapy helpful for?

Online teen therapy is designed to support adolescents through the unique emotional, social, and developmental challenges that come with being a teen today. It offers a private, judgment-free space where teens can talk openly with a licensed therapist, build healthy coping skills, and get support tailored to their needs.

It can be especially helpful for teens who are:

  • Struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, or mood swings
  • Navigating friendships, peer pressure, or social anxiety
  • Dealing with school-related stress, perfectionism, or academic burnout
  • Coping with family conflict, divorce, or major life changes
  • Working through trauma, grief, or loss
  • Managing diagnoses such as  BPD, Bipolar, OCD, PTSD, ADHD
  • Experiencing low self-esteem, body image concerns, or identity confusion
  • Engaging in risky behaviors, self-harm, or substance use
  • Needing support with emotional regulation, communication, or confidence

For the most well-rounded care, many teens benefit from a comprehensive treatment plan that combines both online individual therapy and online group therapy. Individual sessions provide personalized support and skill-building, while group therapy helps teens connect with others facing similar challenges — reducing isolation and building a sense of community.

Whether a teen is facing a specific issue or just needs someone to talk to, online therapy makes it easier than ever to get the support they need — in a space that feels accessible, safe, and empowering.

What are the benefits of Grouport’s online Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adults and teens?

Grouport’s online IOP offers a high-touch, comprehensive level of care for those who need more support than traditional weekly therapy—without putting life on pause. We offer separate IOP tracks for teens and adults, ensuring that each individual receives care tailored to their unique stage of life and needs.

1) Treats a wide range of mental health challenges
Grouport’s online IOP supports individuals managing complex or co-occurring mental health conditions. Whether you're seeking care for yourself or your teen, our therapists specialize in treating:

  • Anxiety, panic, and phobias
  • Depression and mood disorders (e.g., bipolar)
  • ADHD
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • PTSD and trauma
  • Borderline personality disorder (BPD) & Personality Disorders
  • Grief and loss
  • Substance use concerns
  • Self-harm and suicidal ideation
  • Life transitions, identity challenges, and more

2) Built on evidence-based treatment modalities
Our IOP blends multiple therapy types across group and individual sessions, providing robust, personalized care. These include:

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
  • Mindfulness-based techniques
  • Motivational interviewing
  • Family therapy support (when appropriate)

3) Group support creates connection and accountability
Group therapy is at the core of Grouport’s IOP experience. These sessions foster connection, reduce isolation, and create space to learn and grow alongside others with similar challenges. Members not only benefit from expert guidance but also gain strength and perspective from peer support.

4) Fully online and designed to fit your life
With flexible scheduling and multiple time slots (including evenings), our virtual IOP makes it possible to receive structured, intensive support while still managing work, family responsibilities, or school. You can access care from anywhere — no travel or disruption required.

Whether you're an adult or the parent of a teen needing a higher level of care, Grouport’s online IOP offers structured, expert-led treatment that’s accessible, effective, and built around your needs.

How does virtual IOP work at Grouport?

Grouport’s virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides structured, therapist-led care through a fully online experience — offering a higher level of support than traditional weekly therapy, without the need for inpatient treatment.

We offer separate IOP tracks for adults and teens, so each person receives age-appropriate care tailored to their stage of life.

Here’s how it works:

  • Weekly Schedule: Participants attend 9 group therapy sessions per week, along with 1 individual therapy session per week, all conducted via secure video chat.
  • Tailored Treatment: Your care plan is personalized based on what you’re experiencing. For example, someone with OCD would receive ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention), while someone with BPD would focus on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
  • Expert-Led & Evidence-Based: All sessions are led by licensed therapists using evidence-based treatments like DBT, CBT, and ERP — where applicable and clinically relevant.
  • Skill Building + Peer Support: Sessions combine structured skill-building with the power of peer connection — creating a space for emotional growth, accountability, and shared healing.
  • Flexible Access: You don’t need to attend sessions back-to-back — you can choose any 9 group sessions throughout the week that work best for your schedule, with both daytime and evening options available. Your weekly individual therapy session is also scheduled at a time that works best for you.
  • Ongoing Guidance: A care coordinator will ensure you’re matched with the right group(s) and therapist, and we can adjust your plan as needed over time.

Grouport’s virtual IOP is ideal for anyone experiencing intense symptoms or in need of a more comprehensive level of care — all while maintaining the flexibility of your daily routine from home.

How do I know if Grouport’s virtual IOP is right for me or my loved one?

Grouport’s virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is designed for adults and teens who need a higher level of support than traditional once-weekly therapy can provide. Many of our clients have recently transitioned from a higher level of care (such as inpatient, residential treatment, or a hospital stay), or are seeking more frequent, structured care to manage serious mental health conditions or life-altering stressors.

Unlike standard outpatient therapy, which typically involves one session per week, Grouport’s IOP provides multiple sessions each week to deliver deeper, more consistent therapeutic support. Each participant attends 9 group therapy sessions and 1 individual therapy session per week, all held virtually through secure video chat.

Treatment is personalized based on your needs. For example, a client experiencing OCD may receive Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), while someone navigating BPD may focus on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Our licensed therapists use a range of evidence-based approaches — including CBT, DBT, ERP, and mindfulness-based techniques — depending on what’s most clinically appropriate for your symptoms and goals.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or in need of more intensive care — but still want to maintain your daily routine — Grouport’s virtual IOP offers expert-led, accessible, and flexible support from wherever you are.

What are the payment options for depression therapy?

Our mission is to make quality therapy affordable and accessible. Grouport’s rates are significantly lower than the U.S. average, with costs that average out over time because some months have 4 sessions, while others have 5 sessions at no extra cost—thanks to the fact that months have an average of 4.33 weeks.

Group Therapy: Averages $23-$32 per session ($100 - $140/month) (vs. $50-$150 per session elsewhere)
Individual Therapy: Averages $103 per session ($448/month) (vs. $150-$200 per session elsewhere)
Couples Therapy: Averages $114 per session ($492/month) (vs. $150-$200 per session elsewhere)
Family Therapy: Averages $148 per session ($640/month) (vs. $175-$300 per session elsewhere)
IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program): 44 sessions/month for $1,348 — includes 9 group and 1 individual session per week. Group sessions average under $25 each with bundled pricing. (vs. $3,000–$5,000/month for traditional IOP programs)

Do you take insurance for depression therapy?

We currently do not accept insurance — and we understand that’s an important factor when choosing depression therapy. Grouport was built to provide high-quality, structured mental health support that’s affordable, flexible, and accessible — even without insurance.

💡 Here’s why thousands choose Grouport:

✅ Flat monthly pricing — no surprise bills, claims, or deductibles
✅ FSA/HSA eligible — use your HSA or FSA card at checkout
✅ Sessions average over time as low as $23–$32 for group therapy and $103 for individual therapy
✅ 4–5 sessions per month at the same flat monthly rate — no surprise extra charge in 5-week months. Many other services cap sessions at 4 per month or charge extra for a 5th session.
✅ Individual sessions are 45 minutes (longer than the 30-minute average on many platforms)
✅ Group sessions are a full 60 minutes, led by licensed therapists
→ Grouport offers structured, therapist-led group sessions that deliver real skills and connection — often at a cost lower than the average insurance co-pay or coinsurance.
✅ Add more, save more – Each additional group session is ~30% off, and discounts also apply when adding extra individual, couples, or family therapy sessions per week
✅ Save even more — get 10% off when paying quarterly or 20% off when paying biannually

Why no insurance?

While many people assume therapy is fully covered by insurance, the reality is that coverage is often limited or partial, and depends heavily on your specific plan. Some plans only reimburse therapy after you’ve met a high deductible, or may restrict the number or duration of sessions covered.

We can however provide you with detailed invoices that you can submit to your insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement. The reimbursement amount will vary based on your plan, so we recommend checking with your insurance provider to understand your eligibility.

Unlike insurance-based therapy, Grouport doesn’t require a diagnosis, medical records, or clinical justifications to access care. Many insurance plans only cover therapy if there’s a diagnosed mental health disorder — and may require your therapist to submit treatment plans or progress notes. At Grouport, your care stays between you and your therapist — giving you more privacy, more control, and faster access to support.

What makes Grouport different? It starts with how we deliver care.
We provide more care, more time, and more flexibility — all at a price that’s clear, consistent, and affordable.

Unlike most platforms that focus solely on individual therapy or asynchronous text messaging, Grouport’s core strength is structured, therapist-led group therapy — a rare and powerful format designed to help members build skills, find connection, and make real progress. It’s especially effective for those navigating complex or persistent mental health challenges.
Few platforms offer online group therapy. Fewer do it well — and at a price this accessible.

And while group therapy is our specialty, we also offer individual, couples, family, teen therapy, and IOP — all designed to work together or on their own, depending on your goals. Whether you're looking for focused support or a more comprehensive care plan, we’ll help you find the right fit.

Our group plans are often more affordable than the average monthly cost of major therapy platforms — even with insurance.

Additional benefits include:
✔️ Start care within hours to days — not weeks or months
✔️ Therapist and group matching based on your preferences
✔️ Evidence-based care for anxiety, depression, trauma, BPD, Bipolar, OCD, and more
✔️ Specialized support for high-acuity and treatment-resistant conditions
✔️ The ability to switch groups or therapists anytime

Whether you’re looking for your first therapy experience, standalone support, or want to combine group therapy with individual care, Grouport offers better access, greater value, and a care experience built around real, measurable progress.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my billing at any time?

Yes! You can change your plan anytime, whether that means adding or reducing sessions or switching to a different billing cycle. Changes take effect immediately.

✅ Upgrading your plan

  •  Adding more sessions per week (e.g., 1 session/week → 2 sessions/week).
  • Switching to a longer billing cycle (e.g., Monthly → Quarterly).
  • You’ll be charged a prorated difference based on the time remaining in your current plan.

✅ Downgrading your plan

  •    Reducing the number of sessions per week (e.g., 3 sessions/week → 1 session/week).
  •    Switching to a shorter billing cycle (e.g., Quarterly → Monthly).
  •    This will result in a credit applied to your next renewal.
