What are the most common reasons couples seek online couples therapy?

Online couples therapy is not limited to one type of relationship. Whether partners are dating, engaged, or married, therapy offers guidance and tools for building stronger communication and greater intimacy. Many people choose therapy proactively, not just when conflict arises. Common reasons include:

  • Identifying and improving unhealthy communication patterns
  • Navigating difficult or vulnerable topics with support from a therapist
  • Rebuilding trust — including healing after infidelity
  • Exploring sexual desires, boundaries, and unmet needs
  • Developing healthy conflict resolution strategies
  • Learning how to navigate mental health conditions and provide support
  • Managing life transitions or external stressors affecting the relationship
  • Clarifying roles, responsibilities, and expectations
  • Addressing how family dynamics influence the partnership
  • Improving communication around finances and money management
  • Prioritizing quality time and shared experiences
  • Setting long-term goals and planning for the future together

Should I seek couples counseling?

The idea that counseling is only for couples on the edge of breaking up is a misconception. All relationships, even those in good standing, can benefit from consistent attention. Therapy works in the same way as regular gym visits—it maintains strength and health over time.

Some of the most frequent reasons couples seek out therapy include:

  • Couples who keep finding themselves in repetitive arguments, cycling through the same disagreements over and over without ever reaching a meaningful or lasting solution.
  • Couples who are coping with very difficult circumstances such as the grief of a recent tragedy, the presence of substance abuse in the relationship, trust issues caused by infidelity, or challenges linked to ongoing mental health conditions.
  • Couples who want to place greater focus on rebuilding intimacy and closeness, whether that means reigniting sexual passion, deepening emotional bonds, or restoring their romantic chemistry.

What are the most common issues for couples going to therapy?

Couples counseling can serve as a supportive tool for couples of every kind, regardless of whether they are dating, engaged, or already married. The motivation for couples to seek counseling varies widely, and the most common reasons often include but are not limited to:

  • Identifying unhealthy communication patterns
  • Exploring intimate and vulnerable topics with the help of a therapist
  • Rebuilding trust issues in a relationship
  • Discussing sexual desires, needs, and boundaries
  • Building conflict resolution skills
  • Navigating significant life transitions and stressors impacting a couple
  • Understanding the roles and responsibilities within a relationship
  • Exploring family influence on a partnership
  • Improving financial management skills and discussions
  • Prioritizing quality time through shared interests and activities
  • Planning for the future and creating long-term goals

Does couples therapy mean the relationship is over?

For most couples, therapy represents a means of renewal and growth, rather than an end to their relationship. Taking the step to begin therapy is a strong indicator of the commitment to creating a relationship that is fulfilling, balanced, and long-lasting.

During sessions, couples can focus on resolving pressing concerns, preventing tensions from escalating, or using the time as a supportive check-in when experiencing stress or life transitions. The therapist’s role is to introduce practical strategies, maintain objectivity, and provide a safe space where couples can work together productively.

How do I know my privacy is ensured?

Protecting your privacy and maintaining confidentiality are fundamental to how Grouport operates. Every session is hosted on HIPAA-compliant systems, with end-to-end encrypted technology that ensures your health information is always secure.

HIPAA-Compliant – We follow strict privacy regulations to safeguard your data.
End-to-End Encryption – Ensures that your sessions remain completely private and secure and that our systems protect your private health information

We never release your data without explicit consent, and every measure is taken to keep your therapy experience safe and private.

How much does Grouport Couples Counseling cost?

The cost for couples therapy through Grouport is $123 per session. Four sessions per month come to a total of $492. This represents excellent value compared to the average U.S. rates, where a single 45-minute couples therapy session typically costs between $150 and $250.

What are the payment options for couples therapy?

You can choose to pay your couples therapy:
Monthly – Standard rate, billed every month.
Quarterly (Save 10%) – Billed every 3 months.
Biannually (Save 20%) – Billed every 6 months.

Your plan will automatically renew based on the payment frequency you selected. Depending on your needs, you may prefer weekly sessions, or every-other-week sessions, both of which are options available within certain plans.

How does the cost of Grouport’s online couples therapy compare to elsewhere?

At Grouport, affordability and accessibility go hand in hand. Compared to average therapy costs across the U.S., our rates are significantly lower. And since months average 4.33 weeks, your subscription works out evenly across the year, giving you the advantage of extra sessions in months with five weeks at no added cost.

Couples Therapy: Averages $114 per session ($492/month) (vs. $150-$200 per session elsewhere)

💡 Even More Savings:

  • Extra discounts when adding more sessions per week.

Pay quarterly (save 10%) or biannually (save 20%) for even lower rates

Do you take insurance for online couples therapy?

No, we do not take insurance as our services are out of network. We aim to make couples counseling and mental health support as affordable as possible. A 45-minute session is $123, which is below the U.S. average of $150 to $250 per session.

We can provide invoices for each billing cycle, which you can submit to your insurance provider to attempt out-of-network reimbursement. The reimbursed amount depends on your plan, so you should verify with your provider.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my billing at any time?

You can adjust your plan at any time. Whether that means adding sessions, reducing sessions, or changing your billing schedule, all changes take effect immediately.

✅ Upgrading your plan

  •  Adding more sessions per week (e.g., 1 session/week → 2 sessions/week).
  • Switching to a longer billing cycle (e.g., Monthly → Quarterly).
  • You’ll be charged a prorated difference based on the time remaining in your current plan.

✅ Downgrading your plan

  •    Reducing the number of sessions per week (e.g., 3 sessions/week → 1 session/week).
  •    Switching to a shorter billing cycle (e.g., Quarterly → Monthly).
  •    This will result in a credit applied to your next renewal.

How do I cancel couples therapy?

You may cancel your subscription at any time, but the current billing period must be finished prior to the cancellation taking effect. To cancel, email support@grouporttherapy.com, and the support team will provide a form to complete for your family’s membership.

Only when this form is submitted will your membership officially end. Until that happens, your subscription will remain active and services will continue until the conclusion of the billing period.

No long-term commitment – cancel whenever you need.
Full access through your last billing period after canceling.
