Expert 1:1 Care
Grouport offers individual therapy in Republic of the Congo through weekly video sessions with a licensed clinician, giving Congolese residents and expatriates one-on-one therapy without the travel and access constraints of the country's small specialist workforce. Most psychiatric care in Congo is concentrated in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire, and English-speaking mental health providers are almost impossible to find outside oil-sector clinics, leaving many people without a workable option locally. Grouport is fully online, HIPAA-compliant, and priced at $103 per session weekly ($448 per month) or $224 per month for every-other-week ($224 per month). After a short intake, clients are matched right away with a licensed therapist and can book their first session this week from anywhere in Congo with a stable internet connection.

Understanding the landscape of mental health care access and the challenges
residents face.
15.7% of Congolese adults live with a mental health condition each year, reflecting the ongoing need for accessible therapy options.
9 weeks the average wait to secure a first mental health appointment in the Republic of the Congo's public system, an interval during which symptoms often deepen.
$3,431 median household income in the Republic of the Congo, shaping what households can allocate to private mental health care.
85.0% of Congolese adults with a mental health condition do not receive formal specialist treatment.
73% of the Republic of the Congo's mental health workforce falls short of what is needed to fully meet population demand for specialist care.
13.3 per 100,000 mental health workers in the Republic of the Congo, a density that shapes availability, wait times, and access across the country.
Roughly 13.35 mental health workers per 100,000 people, fewer than a dozen practicing psychiatrists nationwide, a nine-week typical wait for a specialist appointment, and near-total concentration of that workforce in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire together describe a country where in-person one-on-one therapy is simply out of reach for a large share of its 6.3 million people. Those numbers make a strong case for Grouport's model in Republic of the Congo. Weekly video sessions with a licensed clinician bypass the geographic bottleneck entirely, remove the nine-week wait, and let an English-speaking Grouport therapist support clients from Ouesso to Pointe-Noire on the same predictable USD subscription. Grouport's delivery model fits the constraints the data describe.
UNDERSTANDING THE CHALLENGE
The Republic of the Congo carries one of the sparser mental health workforces on the continent, at 13.35 professionals per 100,000. The vast majority cluster in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire, leaving the Sangha, Likouala, and Cuvette-Ouest departments with almost no resident psychologists. For a country where 63.9% of the population is urban but the remaining third is spread across dense equatorial forest and river settlements, the geography of care is genuinely unforgiving.
For a working adult in Brazzaville, Pointe-Noire, or a northern department, Republic of the Congo's access gap translates into weeks or months of untreated anxiety, depression, or burnout while trying to schedule with fewer than a dozen practicing psychiatrists nationwide. A nine-week wait can mean missed workdays, disrupted sleep, deteriorating relationships, and the financial strain of paying out-of-pocket at private clinics that may not carry consistent medication supplies. Traveling from Sangha or Likouala to reach a specialist adds hundreds of kilometers, lost income, and hotel costs on top of the consultation fee. Grouport removes that friction by matching clients right away with a licensed therapist over HIPAA-compliant video, so treatment can begin this week from home rather than after a long queue and a long journey.
Online individual therapy through Grouport takes the pressure off Republic of the Congo's centralized and thinly staffed mental health system by delivering private, one-on-one sessions directly to the client's home or office. Instead of waiting for a slot at Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Brazzaville or the psychiatric unit at Hopital de Makelekele, Congolese clients meet weekly with the same licensed therapist over HIPAA-compliant video, building continuity that a fragmented, understaffed public system rarely supports. Every treatment plan is tailored to the individual around anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, chronic stress, or relationship strain. Because sessions are online and paid in a straightforward USD subscription, clients can sustain a full course of care without needing to travel to the capital or navigate the shortages that affect in-person psychiatric services.
73% of the Republic of the Congo's mental health workforce falls short of what is needed to fully meet population demand for specialist care.
Grouport loosens three specific frictions that make one-on-one therapy hard to access in Republic of the Congo. First, the roughly nine-week wait typical of the small local specialist workforce becomes an immediate start, with a licensed therapist available for a first session within the same week as intake. Second, the extreme concentration of psychiatrists in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire is replaced by nationwide reach: residents of Ouesso, Owando, Dolisie, Sangha, or Likouala can log in without a costly journey by road or riverboat to the capital. Third, the near-total absence of English-language mental health providers locally is addressed directly, since Grouport's sessions are delivered in English by licensed clinicians who work with clients across many countries.
Republic of the Congo's formal mental health care landscape is small and centralized. The public system, anchored by Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Brazzaville and the psychiatric unit at Hopital de Makelekele, handles most specialist care but faces chronic shortages of medication, trained staff, and dedicated inpatient beds. Private psychiatric practice exists on a modest scale in Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire, paid largely out-of-pocket. Employee assistance programs, university counselling, and NGO-run mental health outreach exist but are limited in scope, and the Caisse d'Assurance Maladie Universelle scheme reaches only a small share of the population. Grouport fills a specific gap in that landscape: immediate-start, weekly, one-on-one English-language therapy with a licensed clinician, delivered over HIPAA-compliant video and priced as a predictable USD subscription.
Grouport gives Republic of the Congo residents immediate access to individual therapy at $103 per session on average (billed at $448 per month), 50 to 60 percent below the global average of $150 to $250 per session for private one-on-one therapy. Clients who prefer a lighter cadence can also choose every other week, billed at $224 per month. Sessions are 45 minutes of one-on-one time with the same licensed clinician each week, delivered over HIPAA-compliant video. Pricing is quoted in USD and billed as a straightforward monthly subscription with no per-visit surprises, so clients can plan a full course of care rather than negotiating fees appointment by appointment.
Republic of the Congo is classified as a lower-middle-income country with a gross national income of about $2,270 per capita by the Atlas method and $6,320 in purchasing power parity terms, so any recurring health expense needs to be planned carefully. Grouport's USD monthly subscription of $448 for weekly sessions or $224 for every-other-week sessions gives Congolese clients a fixed figure to budget against rather than a variable stack of per-visit fees at private clinics plus travel costs to reach them. Because the same amount covers every session in the month, it is easier to plan a full course of care over three, six, or nine months without repeated conversations about pricing. Clients can cancel anytime, so the commitment is month to month, not a long-term contract.
In-person therapy in Republic of the Congo carries costs that do not appear on the invoice. In Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire, reaching a private clinic can mean 30 to 90 minutes each way in traffic, taxi fares, and lost working hours around a single 45 minute session. Clients outside the two main cities may pay for long-distance road transport, riverboat fares, or overnight stays to attend appointments in the capital. Per-session billing at private clinics is unpredictable and typically quoted in FCFA, which adds a currency conversion step for expatriates paid in USD or EUR. Finding a licensed English-speaking clinician locally is difficult on top of all that. Grouport folds all of this into one predictable USD subscription paid month to month, with no commute, no cash handling, and cancel anytime.
Where a public system appointment in Republic of the Congo can take around nine weeks, and private clinics in Brazzaville or Pointe-Noire may also stretch out over several weeks depending on the specialist, Grouport is set up to move immediately. After a short intake, a client is matched right away with a licensed therapist and can book a first video session within the same week, from anywhere in Congo with a stable internet connection. There is no queue, no referral chain, and no wait for a specialist slot to open. For Republic of the Congo clients ready to start now, a licensed Grouport therapist is available this week to begin one-on-one weekly sessions and continue that relationship over the full course of care.

Grouport serves teens/adolescents (ages 11+), adults, couples, and families. Our teen therapy program consists of group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy, or a combination based on what’s appropriate and the level of care your teen needs. So teens often combine group therapy + individual therapy at the level that meets their needs or they do our intensive outpatient program for more acute needs.
If you experience technical difficulties, first try refreshing your browser or reconnecting to your internet. If that doesn’t work, try a private browser, a different web browser, or try joining from another device. Your therapist will be there while you try to reconnect. If problems persist, contact our technical support team by emailing them at support@grouporttherapy.com. We can often resolve issues quickly. We also recommend testing your connection a couple of minutes before your session to prevent any issues.
No, therapy sessions are not allowed to be recorded for confidentiality reasons. However, if you want to remember specific exercises or coping skills from your session from material that is being referenced during the session, you can ask your therapist to have our administrative staff email you the resources after your appointment if the therapist is willing to provide such materials to email to you. Certain types of sessions, like our DBT groups, come with reading manuals that we universally provide and you can review on your own time at your own pace outside of sessions. You can also take notes during sessions.
If your schedule changes temporarily, that’s totally normal and missing a couple of sessions here and there like 2-3 sessions is acceptable as long as there's commitment to return. If missing session is happening a lot due to your scheduling changes, talk to a care coordinator about switching to a different group time that works better for your schedule and they’ll be sure to assist. This is precisely why we allow to switch individual sessions at any time as we know scheduling changes do happen. Or pause and return later when it's convenient for you. Life changes and schedules shift, so it's important that you find a group that works for you and your schedule.
Absolutely, we have specific individual sessions geared to Trauma & PTSD. So for trauma we would recommend a trauma group. We also find that Dialectical Behavior Therapy “DBT” individual sessions are often also helpful for trauma & PTSD. The shared experience among trauma survivors is healing and realizing you're not alone in what happened or how it affected you is essential for progress. Trauma individual sessions are usually structured carefully so that you can process trauma effectively, and they can include specific trauma techniques like EMDR or rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Temporary discomfort after group can happen, especially initially or after intense sessions. Sometimes processing difficult stuff is uncomfortable initially. Emotions can get elevated. If you consistently feel worse, discuss with the group therapist, perhaps they can adjust the approach, or you may need additional individual support which we can help you with, or assess whether this group is the right fit. Most people find initial discomfort decreases as individual sessions become familiar. The goal is growth through challenge and the therapist monitors carefully to ensure group is therapeutic and not harmful. Therapy shouldn't leave you consistently feeling worse, but sometimes hard work is in fact a sign of healing and it can come before you feel better.

Your therapist won't judge you and understands the unique stresses of being LGBTQ+ in unsupportive environments. Your identity is valid even if your country doesn't recognize it.
Yes, if you're paying out-of-pocket. Insurance requires diagnosis codes, but self-pay doesn't. Many people prefer this, since they don't want depression or anxiety disorder in their permanent medical record. You can get help without labeling.
