Get Better, Together
Grouport connects people across Colombia with English-language group therapy led by licensed clinicians, at $32 per session. Instead of waiting roughly nine weeks for an EPS-authorized appointment or traveling from a rural department into Bogotá, you join a small group of six to twelve from wherever you already are. Matching happens right away.

Understanding the landscape of mental health care access and the challenges
residents face across the state.
Colombia has around 15.73 mental health workers per 100,000 residents, well below the density found in most upper-middle-income peers. On top of clinical need, the country hosts the world's largest Venezuelan migrant population (roughly 2.8 million people) and roughly 9 million registered victims of the internal armed conflict eligible for PAPSIVI psychosocial support. Demand consistently outpaces what the SGSSS network can absorb, and World Bank income figures ($22,100 GNI PPP) mask sharp gaps between formal-sector professionals in Bogotá and informal workers in Chocó or La Guajira.
UNDERSTANDING THE CHALLENGE
On paper, Colombia looks well-covered: Ley 1616 de 2013 obligates the Sistema General de Seguridad Social en Salud to include mental health in both the contributory and subsidized regimes. In practice, the pipeline from a request for care to an actual therapy session is long. EPS insurers must authorize referrals, IPS clinics have limited slots, and the country's roughly 15.73 mental health workers per 100,000 cluster in three departments. Someone in Quibdó or Leticia often has to travel to Medellín or Bogotá just to see a psychologist, if they can find one who accepts their EPS.
The nine-week wait between EPS authorization and a first appointment is not an abstract number. It is nine weeks of a Bogotá office worker rationing sleep, nine weeks of a returning migrant in Barranquilla trying to reintegrate without support, nine weeks of a Venezuelan family in Cúcuta carrying untreated grief. For the roughly 2.8 million Venezuelans now settled in Colombia, and for the 9 million registered conflict victims, delay compounds trauma. Rural departments like Vaupés and Guainía effectively function as care deserts, and even in cities, private psychologists charging COP 150,000 to 300,000 per session price out most subsidized-regime enrollees.
Online group therapy sidesteps two of the bottlenecks unique to Colombia's system: geography and EPS authorization. Grouport groups meet over HIPAA-compliant video, so a participant in San Andrés joins the same session as a participant in Bucaramanga. Because Grouport operates outside the SGSSS as a private-pay service, there is no EPS referral, no IPS scheduling queue, and no requirement to be in the contributory regime. Groups of six to twelve are facilitated by licensed therapists, so participants get the accountability of a cohort without the isolation of one-on-one telehealth.
Colombia sits in COT (UTC-5) year-round with no daylight saving, which happens to line up with US Eastern Standard Time for large parts of the year. That makes evening group sessions with licensed Grouport therapists workable for someone finishing a workday in Cali or Cartagena. English-language sessions are the default, which matches the preferences of the growing English-fluent population in Bogotá, Medellín, and coastal expat hubs, including returning migrants, BPO and tech workers, international students, and digital nomads. you can join a group right away, so people bypass the roughly nine-week EPS timeline entirely.
Access to mental health care in Colombia varies dramatically by department, insurance regime, and language. Someone with a contributory-regime EPS in Chapinero has options a subsidized-regime enrollee in Tumaco simply does not. Grouport's fit is narrow but real: English-speaking Colombians and residents who can pay $32 per session and who value bypassing the SGSSS intake process altogether.
Against Colombia's GNI per capita PPP of $22,100, $140 per month works out to roughly 7.6% of average annual purchasing power. That share is meaningful, but it compares favorably with private-pay bilingual therapy in Bogotá, which can run COP 600,000 or more per month at weekly cadence. For English-speaking professionals in the contributory regime whose EPS covers only limited sessions, Grouport can be an economical way to extend care without paying urban private-practice rates.
Colombia's in-person model carries costs that never appear on the invoice. A patient in Chocó traveling to Medellín for a specialist absorbs airfare, lodging, lost wages, and time. Even within Bogotá, cross-town commutes on TransMilenio can add ninety minutes each way to a fifty-minute session. Grouport removes all of that: no travel, no time off work beyond the session itself, and no need to arrange coverage for family responsibilities across half a day. For rural participants especially, the total-cost-of-care comparison is far more favorable than the sticker price suggests.
immediate start changes the economics of getting started. There is no downpayment on months of waiting, no risk of paying an EPS copay for an authorization that stalls. Participants move from sign-up to their first group session inside a week.
Therapy pricing in Colombia spans a wide range. SGSSS-covered sessions carry only a modest copay for enrollees who can get through the authorization process, while private psychologists in Bogotá and Medellín typically charge between COP 150,000 and 300,000 per hour, and bilingual expat-focused practices often price higher. Grouport's $32 per session ($140 per month) sits well below the private urban market rate while offering something the public system rarely can: a scheduled English-language cohort meeting weekly with the same therapist.

Colombia has roughly 15.73 mental health workers per 100,000 people, well below what the Pan American Health Organization considers adequate, and public system wait times commonly stretch to around nine weeks for a first appointment. Private therapy in cities like Bogota and Medellin is more accessible but often costs 150,000 to 300,000 COP per individual session, which adds up quickly for weekly care. Online group therapy addresses both bottlenecks at once: you skip local waitlists entirely, start within days of matching, and share the cost structure across a small group, making consistent weekly support more sustainable. You also gain access to therapists trained in evidence-based modalities like CBT and DBT that can be harder to find outside major Colombian urban centers, and you connect with peers navigating similar challenges from across the Americas rather than being limited to what is available in your immediate city.
Grouport is a fully online group therapy service, so you can join from Bogota, Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla, or anywhere in Colombia with a stable internet connection. Sessions are conducted in English by licensed therapists, so a comfortable working level of English is important for meaningful participation. Colombia sits in the COT time zone (UTC-5), which aligns closely with US Eastern Time, so our evening US groups typically land in the early evening for you as well, making attendance manageable around work or family commitments. Payment is processed in US dollars via major international credit and debit cards, and most Colombian-issued Visa and Mastercard accounts work without issue. You will not receive a superbill usable with Colombian insurance, but many members find the flat weekly cost more predictable than local per-session private therapy.
