Get Better, Together
Grouport connects adults across Czech Republic to licensed therapists running small, English-language groups over secure video. Sessions are $32 each, groups hold six to twelve members, and matching typically happens right away of sign-up. It is a practical option for anyone in Prague, Brno, or a smaller Moravian town who wants structured support without a multi-month wait.

Understanding the landscape of mental health care access and the challenges
residents face across the state.
Czechia's workforce density of 94.24 mental health workers per 100,000 people sits well above the WHO European average, yet coverage is uneven: psychotherapists are heavily clustered in Prague and other regional capitals, and only a fraction hold contracts with the public insurance funds. The result is a headline number that flatters the lived reality, particularly outside the largest cities. Prevalence and treatment-gap estimates come from WHO Global Health Observatory and the WHO European Region mental health atlas; income and population figures are from the World Bank (2024).
UNDERSTANDING THE CHALLENGE
The Czech mental health system has been in reform since the 2017 national strategy, moving from a hospital-heavy Communist-era model toward community-based Centres of Mental Health (CDZ). Rollout is real but partial: dozens of centres exist, not the hundreds originally planned, and psychotherapy covered by veřejné zdravotní pojištění is rationed by a small pool of contracted clinicians. For working adults with mild-to-moderate anxiety or depression, the practical route to therapy is often a private pay Kč 1,200 to Kč 2,000 hourly session, or a wait.
A six-week wait for a first appointment is a common quoted figure, but Czech patient organisations regularly document waits of three to six months for a contracted psychologist, and longer for psychiatry in border regions like Karlovarský or Ústecký kraj. For someone whose sleep is unravelling or whose relationship is strained, that gap is the difference between an early intervention and a crisis. English-speaking expats in Prague face an additional narrowing of the funnel, since most in-network Czech providers work only in Czech.
Online group therapy sidesteps two of the tightest constraints in Czech care at once: the shortage of contracted clinicians and the geographic concentration of them. A Grouport member in Olomouc or Ostrava joins the same weekly group as members in Prague, meets people working through similar issues, and does it in English with a licensed therapist. The group format also stretches clinical time further than one-to-one care, which matters in a country where every hour of psychotherapy is contested.
Sign-up to first session runs immediate rather than six weeks. There is no referral from a GP or psychiatrist, no waiting list at the local CDZ, and no need to be in Prague for the good clinicians. Sessions run at fixed weekly times over HIPAA-compliant video, so a member in Plzeň or České Budějovice needs only a stable internet connection and a private room. English-language delivery is the default, which suits both the growing bilingual Czech professional class and the roughly 500,000 foreign residents living in the country.
On paper Czechia looks well-staffed, with 94.24 mental health workers per 100,000. In practice, access depends heavily on where you live, whether you speak Czech, and whether you can pay privately. Grouport is designed for the space between those constraints, offering a same-week route to a therapist for anyone with an internet connection anywhere in the country.
At $32 per session, Grouport is roughly 0.7% of the Czech GNI per capita PPP of $55,770 for a full month of weekly therapy. For comparison, a single private psychiatric consultation in Prague can cost Kč 2,500 to Kč 3,500, more than a full month of Grouport membership. The value calculation is not that group therapy is a lesser substitute for individual care, it is that for many presentations the evidence base treats them as clinically equivalent, and the price differential is substantial.
Czech patients rarely account for the shadow costs of in-person care: a train from Ostrava to Prague to see a specialist runs Kč 400 to Kč 600 return, plus half a day of work, plus parking if driving in the historic centre. Rural residents in Vysočina or Jihočeský kraj commonly report 90-minute one-way drives to a contracted psychologist. Online sessions remove travel, parking, and the need to schedule around office hours in a distant city. For a working parent, that recovered time is often the deciding factor.
Matching to a group happens right away of completing the intake questionnaire. The contrast with the six-week to six-month public wait is not incidental, it is the core reason many Czech members sign up. Sessions start the following week, at a fixed weekly time.
Private psychotherapy in Prague typically runs Kč 1,200 to Kč 2,000 per session, or roughly $50 to $85. Grouport is $32 per session, billed as a $140 monthly membership that includes weekly group sessions. In koruna terms that is around Kč 3,200 per month for four sessions, meaningfully below the private Czech market and without the wait attached to insurance-covered care.
Choose your desired online therapy group and sign up for our weekly plan. Most of our groups are $35/session, but our skills groups are $25/session.
We’ll ensure you're matched to an online therapy group that best fits your mental health challenges and schedule. Don’t worry if you’re not entirely sure which group is right for you, as after signing up, a care coordinator can help make sure you get started in the group that’s right for you. We typically match you to a group right away!
Join your group over video chat at the same time each week for 60-minute sessions. You’ll meet with the same members & therapist with a group of up to 12 members. Additional membership perks can include weekly handouts, symptom tracking, and one-off workshops.
Grouport groups run for adults dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, trauma and PTSD, OCD, and dialectical behaviour therapy skills. These map onto the presentations most commonly reported to Czech GPs and to NÚDZ outpatient clinics, and are the same conditions that fill the longest queues in the public system. Group formats are particularly well-evidenced for social anxiety, generalised anxiety, and depression, which together account for the majority of Czech psychotherapy referrals.

Our therapists represent a wide range of clinical specialties & diverse backgrounds. They all undergo the most stringent credentialing process. Grouport therapists are caring, expert mental health professionals with years of experience helping people get the tools they need to see long-lasting change.
All Grouport clinicians are licensed at the master's or doctoral level, and are experienced in delivering group therapy over video to international members. Sessions are held in English, which suits Czech professionals who studied or worked abroad, the bilingual younger cohort, and the substantial expatriate community in Prague, Brno, and Ostrava. Therapists are matched to a group based on presenting concerns rather than geography, so the fit is clinical rather than a compromise dictated by who happens to be contracted in your okres.

Public mental health care in the Czech Republic is covered by VZP and other insurers, but waits for a psycholog or psychiatr commonly stretch to six weeks or longer, and group therapy slots in the public system are especially scarce. Private Czech therapists typically charge 1,200-2,000 CZK per 50-minute individual session, and English-speaking specialists in Prague often sit at the top of that range with limited availability. Grouport offers structured weekly group sessions starting within days of matching, at a flat monthly rate that works out lower per session than most private Czech options once you attend consistently. The trade-off is format: you're joining a small international group of 6-8 members rather than one-to-one care, and sessions run in English. For many Czech clients that combination-faster access, English-language delivery, and predictable cost-complements rather than replaces any local provider they already see.
Grouport runs weekly video sessions that fit comfortably into Czech schedules. Central European Time puts you 6 hours ahead of New York, so early evening groups in the US (5-7 PM ET) land at 11 PM-1 AM in Prague, while our earlier US afternoon slots fall at reasonable Czech evening hours. Sessions are conducted in English at a conversational pace, and Czech professionals typically have the English proficiency needed to participate fully. Payment works in USD via international credit or debit card, with your bank converting from koruna or euro at posting; Revolut and Wise cards are popular Czech options that minimize FX fees. You'll need a private space and a stable connection-home broadband across Prague, Brno, and most of the country handles video reliably. No Czech address or local health documentation is required to join.
